Mary celebrates her 100th birthday
There were 100th birthday celebrations recently for a former Ardnamurchan, Oban and Dunbeg woman.
Mary Macintyre was born in Ardnamurchan, where she lived and worked in her early life. She met and married Donald MacColl in 1951 and they set up home in Glenmore, where Donald was a shepherd on the Boot’s estate. They moved to Gallanachbeg in Oban where Donald continued shepherding and later they retired to Dunbeg. Mary and Donald made many friends in and around Oban and were seen regularly at all the Comunn Gaidhealach events.
After Donald died and Mary became less confident living alone, she moved to Glasgow in 2010 to stay with her daughter Margaret and, when she needed additional care due to dementia, she moved into Mugdock Care Home in Bearsden.
On her birthday celebration on November 28 in Mugdock House, many of her friends and relatives joined the party.
Sarah Sinclair sang many of her favourite songs and her grand-daughter Valerie played music on the keyboard which delighted Mary and her fellow residents.
A special celebration was held on December 1 at her daughter’s home in Bearsden and it was greatly enhanced by the presence of Mary who had a wonderful time with relatives and friends from near and far, including the Black Isle.
Her grand-daughters Roslyn, with partner Dave, and Valerie, together with her grandson Eric, his wife Amani and Mary’s great-grandchildren Ailsa and Euan (on Facetime from Los Angeles) all made the celebration special.
Mary would like to thank all who sent such kind messages.
