Chief executive of High Life Highland Ian Murray has recently been appointed chairman for the Scottish arm of Community Leisure UK, the national members’ association representing leisure and culture charitable trusts and social enterprises across the UK.

As chairman of Community Leisure UK in Scotland, Mr Murray will lead the recognised voice of leisure and culture trusts in raising awareness of the social impact and importance of their work.

The Highland Council set up High Life Highland, its own leisure and culture charitable trust, seven years ago to develop and promote opportunities in culture, adult learning and youth work, sport, leisure, health and wellbeing across nine services throughout the whole of the Highlands, for both residents and visitors.

Community Leisure UK is committed to supporting High Life Highland and other trusts across Scotland to improve the physical and mental health and wellbeing of communities, breaking down barriers to social inclusion and supporting all ages.

Mr Murray, said: ‘It is a great privilege to take on the role of chairman for Community Leisure UK in Scotland. Leisure and culture trusts across the country offer a wide range of cultural, sporting and health and wellbeing opportunities to improve quality of life and to stay physically and mentally active for longer.’

Mr Murray continued: ‘Community Leisure UK helps all leisure and culture trusts across the country, including High Life Highland, to collaborate and gives a stronger voice to the work we do. Through this organisation, we share good practice on how to provide accessible and affordable leisure and cultural services to people in Scotland, and across the UK.’
