Mánran to play Corran Halls

-

Scots trad-rock band Mànran are at Corran Halls next month after a year that started with a sold-out gig at Celtic Connections.

The Glasgow performance was live streamed to 125,000 people worldwide, followed by a ticket-busting tour of France and Germany, and playing a host of prestigious festivals in Europe and beyond in the summer.

And on Wednesday January 2 they will be in Oban with Trail West as support.

The band will also be appearing on BBC Alba’s Hogmanay show featuring an earlier headline gig at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom filmed especially by the channel. On Spotify alone this year, Mànran’s music was streamed one million times by 109,000 fans for 82,000 hours across 65 countries.

As they come to the end of their eighth year in the music business, and with three award-winning studio albums under their belt and two singles released in 2018, the six-piece cannot wait to play Oban.

Mànran’s accordion player and founding member Gary Innes, from Taynuilt, said: ‘We love playing to the Oban crowds, they’re always up for a great night! We can’t wait to get back in January to start 2019 in style with what we promise will be a gig to remember with the mighty Trail West!’

Mànran are the only group in the 21st century to break the UK top 40 with a song in the Gaelic language – their debut single Latha Math reached number 29.

Variously tagged as folkrock, trad-rock, Celtic-rock and even grown-up folk-rock, Mànran’s music is an eclectic mix of influences built around traditional Celtic roots, fiery tunes from fiddle, accordion, flute, Uilleann and Highland bagpipes creating innovative and uplifting sound and songs.
