New An Lòchran chairman
Dr Alasdair Whyte has been named the new chairman of An Lòchran, with Donald MacLeod stepping down after six years in the position.
Alasdair will work with the committee, including recently appointed development officer Kyle Orr to promote Gaelic throughout Glasgow.
Originally from Salen in Mull and a Royal National Mòd Gold Medal winner, Alasdair is a highly-respected expert in the Gaelic language and is based at Glasgow University.
His predecessor, Donald MacLeod, said: ‘Alasdair is a very welcome addition to the board, and will be a massive asset not just to An Lòchran but also the wider Glasgow Gaelic community.’
Donald, who takes a break from the board due to good governance, lists a number of remarkable achievements as his highlights from the last six years including the West End Festival, drama nights, Gaelic music sessions, and five flagship events at Celtic Connections: The Clyde and Commonwealth, Stri is Buaidh, Slainte Mhath, Binneas nam Ban, and Songs of Gaelic Scotland.
During his six years, Donald has worked with four different development officers: Linda MacLeod, Shona Masson, Iain Beggs, and (most recently) Kyle Orr.
Alasdair is the perfect replacement for Donald as chairman and I am sure that, under his chairmanship, An Lòchran flourish. will continue to
