Islay – On Monday December 10, United Auctions held its annual Christmas sale of all classes lambs and sheep at Islay Auction Mart when a catalogued entry of 2,318 sold to a strong force of mainland buyers. Lambs sold to average £58.63 per head or 168.3 pence per kilo (+ £12.26 per head or + 28.73 pence per kilo). Most lots of lambs weighing 36kg upwards were selling from £70 to a top of £80.50 for an outstanding pen of Suffolk crosses from Sunderland Farm. A quality pen of Texel Crosses from Ardbeg led the kilo prices at 208 pence. A pen of 47 Blackface wedder lambs from Kilchiaran led this section at £69. Principal lots and prices:

Stirling – Caledonian Marts Ltd on Monday December 17 held its last store sale of the year comprising of 47 store cattle and suckled calves. Heifers sold to 244p for a British Blue from TE and I J Davies, Low Penniver, Campbeltown and to £1,100 from the same home. Bullocks sold to 211p for a pen of Limousins from D McKenzie, Ardgate, Gartocharn and to £850 from Barr Farms, Meldrum, Blairdrummond. Other leading prices Bullocks per head: £790 Ardgate; Bullocks per kilo: 208p Ardgate;

Heifers per head: £1,100 Low Peninver £990 Low Peninver;

Heifers per kilo: 221p Low Peninver, 214p and 202p Low Peninver. Also forward were 1,132 store and feeding sheep at the last store sale for 2018.

Again all classes of lambs keenly bid for and maintained recent high prices.
