Feathers fly at OHS badminton championships
Oban High School held its U14 and U16 Badminton Championships last Thursday at Atlantis Leisure where 52 pupils competing and there were some incredibly close matches.
The winners represent OHS in the Argyll and Bute Scottish Schools regional qualifiers which is held in Oban in January.
Moira Barbour presented all the prizes and was delighted to award, for the first time, the Cameron Barbour cup for junior boys and the Stuart Barbour cup for intermediate boys to U14 winner Morgan Gemmell and the U16 winner Fergus Carmichael.
Following an appeal in The Oban Times last year there was a full collection of trophies to hand out for the first time as members of the community and local organisations generously donated silverware to what is always a very well attended and highly competitive event.
Results: U14 girls’ singles: winner – Ellie MacInnes; runner up – Chloe Campbell.
U14 boys’ singles: winner – Morgan Gemmell; runner up – Rory Dods.
U16 girls’ singles: winner – Alyssa Dowell; runner up – Alice Needham.
U16 boys’ singles: winner – Fergus Carmichael; runner up – Finlay France.
U14 girls; doubles: winners – Wiktoria Ryszka and Katie MacLellan; runners-up – Chloe Campbell and Caitlin McKay.
U14 boys’ doubles: winners – Morgan Gemmell and Innes MacCallum; runners-up – Rory Dods and Euan Dods.
U16 girls’ doubles: winners – Alyssa Dowell Needham.
U16 boys’ doubles: winners – Fergus Carmichael and Finlay France; runners-up – Kyle MacDougall and Stuart Head.
U14 mixed – still to play. U16 mixed: winners - Arran MacMillan and Alyssa Dowell; runners-up – Murray Scott and Alice Needham.
