Ballachulish Santa dash raises home funds
benefits to the local area.’
Toni Volpe, chief executive officer of Falck Renewables, added: ‘The panel was very impressed by this entry which has clear potential to make a meaningful impact to the community for years to come. We look forward to seeing this project develop.’
The judging panel of representatives from Falck Renewables and Scottish Renewables was also impressed with a proposal from Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston Community Company in partnership with Kilchuimein Academy and Primary School to provide LED lightbulbs to the local community. This initiative, designed to increase awareness of energy conservation, was awarded £1,500.
Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston Community Company won second prize in the Best Community Project category. Following a devastating fire, the community used funding from its local wind farm to undertake a major construction project of Cuill Chuimein Medical Centre.
The project received £2,000 after an online vote hosted on the Falck Renewables Community portal. Any individual involved in projects that have been at least part funded by a Falck Renewables Community Benefit Fund or BenComs were eligible to enter the competition and to vote on all the final submissions. The weekend’s Santa Dash in aid of Abbeyfield Care Home, Ballachulish, and the village Christmas lights raised £264.27. Karl and Sam Hobson were congratulated for finishing particularly fast. Everyone proved themselves a star for turning out to help two local groups and bring more than a few smiles.
Special thanks went to Lorna MacAskill Scott of Highland Hustle for the warm up, and Deborah Fyfe, Martina Preece, Neil Mcritchie, Jo Watt, Daisy, Holly, Liam and Eben for helping. Thanks also went to everyone who donated raffle prizes and Karl, Pamela and the girls at the Quarry Cafe. It was really appreciated.
