Weather wreaks havoc as Lochaber play out scoreless draw

-

Lochaber played out a scoreless draw away to Police Scotland Glasgow on Saturday before adverse winter weather caused the referee to abondon the match 20 minutes early.

The fixture was the only match which initially survived postponement in the league owing to police team’s artificial pitch, but the weather was discussed with the teams and the referee due to the freezing conditions.

This was the first time the police had fielded a full team since September, but Lochaber found out after the game they had fielded six unregistered players who had come from Uddingston and Hamilton due to their games being called off.

Neither team was able to find their way through the other’s defence as both teams were limited to half chances and left to rue small mistakes. Lochaber can take some positives away from Saturday, particularly as their defence was fantastic in open play in defending rolling mauls. Lochaber’s scrum was dominant and included in the forward pack was Angus Moss making his senior debut for the club after coming through the youth ranks.

After 60 minutes had been played the game was called due to the weather.

Lochaber’s next league game will be at home to Cowal on January 5, 2pm kick off.

Before that the club will host its annual boxing day game and party and would like to invite anyone interested in giving the sport a go to go along and join in the fun. The club is currently training on Wednesday nights at Banavie from 7pm.

Before Saturday’s game the players held a minute’s silence for former player Craig MacPherson.
