Ten-man Fort hit for six

-

Huntly took full advantage of a Fort William sending off to secure a five-goal advantage in the Highland League as the wet winter conditions made for a difficult afternoon at Claggan Park for both teams.

In their final home match of 2018, Fort William were forced to play more than an hour with just 10 men on Saturday after defender Andrew Martin was shown a second yellow card midway through the first half as Huntly showed their ruthless streak and ran out comfortable winners in the end.

The match started slowly as the rain battered a freezing Claggan Park. In the early exchanges, the best chance fell to former Fort hero Sean Ellis, making a brief cameo for his boyhood club during the winter season break in Australia’s National Premier Leagues, but the forward was foiled by the Huntly goalkeeper.

Fort William’s positive start to the match would be cut short when Andrew Martin was shown a second yellow card on the half hour mark after being booked for a deliberate hand ball just minutes earlier.

The Fort continued to press and forced another good save from the Huntly keeper, who made a good save low to his right from a Sean Grant volley.

The visitors eventually got the breakthrough, with Michael Clark opening the scoring in the 40th minute.
