The Corran Halls was packed for the annual OHS dance show

-

More than 200 pupils and staff performed in front of a packed audience for the annual Oban High School Dance Show in the Corran Halls.

The show, now in its 12th year, was opened by the Oban High School Pipe Band and a large group of Highland dancers.

This was followed by a 'fantastic' mix of routines with music from TV and film, both old and new.

Parents, family and friends had the opportunity to catch the show on three different occasions, as performances took place last Wednesday night, Thursday afternoon and Thursday night – all to a large crowd.

A lot of work goes into producing an event of this scale.

Twenty-two senior dance leaders have been working since June, choreographing routines for younger year groups, which forms the backbone of the show.

The Oban High School gymnastics squad created a routine of exceptional difficulty which must have had the audience holding their breath as pupils were thrown in the air or perched on shoulders.

Another performance that would have captivated the crowd was when teachers and staff from Oban High School dressed up as the cast from The Greatest Showman and danced to a popular scene.

Four dances from the show came from the Oban High School of Dance programme where pupils from across the school can take part in one double and one afternoon

session a week. These classes have been hailed a success, with many pupils attended classes they may not otherwise have had access to

Helen Sloan worked with two sixth year soloists Molly MacPherson and Ilona Vermot as well as a group dance from Mamma Mia.

Helen, a former professional dancer, said: 'The girls rehearse for six months before the finished product.

'They work with tenacity, endurance, a strong desire to please and a true team spirit.'

Amanda Sloss and the Ballet West outreach group performed three dances each with atmosphere and feeling.

Oban High School thanked parents and the wider community for their massive support.
