Staff shortages and weather hit Royal Mail

-

Weather issues and a shortage of staff in the Royal Mail’s Oban office have impacted deliveries in the town.

The company told The Oban Times there are a number of vacancies in the office but it is working to fill them.

An Oban resident raised the issue with The Oban Times over the festive period after a number of letters arrived late, which they said resulted in missed hospital appointments.

Royal Mail apologised in December and put it down to unusually high levels of sick absence.

The resident got in touch again last week to say things have not improved.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: ‘Unfortunately, we are still experiencing a high level of vacancies with the Oban delivery office, but we are recruiting to fill these posts.

‘Weather issues have also impacted on our service recently and we are sorry if any of our customers have been affected by these issues. In the past month, the office has been clear of mail every day.

‘In the past month only one customer has come in to pick up mail. This customer has already asked for mail to be held for them.

‘It is vitally important that if any customer has issues with their deliveries, they contact our customer services on 03457 740 740 or at @royalmail, so that the matter can be investigated.’
