Blackford urges residents to sign up to power cut service

-

Ross, Skye and Lochaber MP, Ian Blackford is encouraging constituents who may need extra support during a power cut to register for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks’ (SSEN) free Priority Services Register (PSR).

For some, being without electricity – even for a short time – can be a distressing and difficult situation, particularly for those relying on specialist electrical medical equipment, such as a kidney dialysis machine or ventilator.

That’s why SSEN, which is responsible for keeping the lights on in the north of Scotland, offers extra help and support to ensure its customers are looked after. By registering for SSEN’s PSR, customers will be proactively contacted to warn them of potential bad weather to help them prepare and to offer extra support where required.

Mr Blackford is calling on people who live in the Highlands and Islands to contact SSEN if they feel they, or someone they know, including family members or neighbours, may need extra support during the winter months.

People can qualify for SSEN’s Priority Services Register if they are dependent on electricity for home medical care, have a chronic illness or short-term medical condition, have a disability, have special communication needs, have children under the age of five or are over the age of 60.
