Oban charities feature on popular BBC show

Two Argyll charities which received a makeover from hit BBC TV show DIY le Donnie will feature in next week’s programme.

Hope Kitchen, which opened in 2009, supports people affected by homelessness, alcohol and drug addiction, and mental health problems.

The charity provides service users with lunch daily and dinner three times a week.

Food parcels are available for those in need, while there is also a laundry service. Emotional support for those who need it is also to hand.

The charity itself needed some help after moving into new premises, and so Donnie ‘Dotaman’ MacLeod was able to lend a helping hand when season five was filmed last summer.

Donnie was in Oban to work on a range of projects for the fifth series of DIY le Donnie.

Green Shoots, a gardening project set within the walls of the Glencruitten Estate which helps people connect with nature, also received assistance.

Lorraine MacCormick, Hope Kitchen’s service manager, said: ‘I think Donnie has done a fantastic job.

‘We are absolutely delighted with the professionalism, with the time it took him to do it and the real quality of the job he has done.

‘We really appreciate that he came to help our wee charity.’

The result of Donnie’s work at both Hope Kitchen and Green Shoots was aired in the third episode on Tuesday, March 5, at 9pm. It can be seen again on BBC iPlayer.
