WHAT’S ON in Lochaber
A series of conversation cafes is being organised by Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland in Fort William to create a place for people who have had a stroke to chat with people in a similar situation. The cafes take place on Tuesdays from 12.30pm to 2pm at the Alexandra Hotel Bistro, Fort William.
Lochaber Natural History Society is hosting Jim Manthorpe on Monday March 11, who will be giving a talk called Filming Wildlife in the Highlands and Beyond. The talk will take place at Ben Nevis Hotel, Fort William, at 7.30pm.
The March meeting of the Lochaber Local History Society will see Ken Johnston speak on The Rise, Fall and Rise Again of a Highland School. Now resurrected from its ruinous state and transformed into the new local Highland Council headquarters, Ken will tell the story of the building, from its design through to its rebuilding, including its last-minute rescue from demolition some years ago. As Lochaber’s planning officer at the time, Ken will tell this story for the first time. Come and learn more at 8pm tonight (Thursday March 7) at the Ben Nevis Hotel. All welcome.
Lochaber Women’s Aid is inviting people to join the team for a International Women’s Day coffee morning on Friday March 8 at its premises on Mary Street, Fort William. Drop in for a tea, coffee, juice and some delicious cake as they celebrate all that women are and can be.
Staff and volunteers from Lochaber Sensory Care for Sight and Hearing Support will be visiting Morvern on Monday March 11.
The LSC team will be based in Morvern Medical Centre in Lochaline from 10.30am until 12.30pm. No appointment necessary for this free and friendly service.
Fort William Photographic Society’s next meeting is on Tuesday March 12 at 7pm in the Salvation Army hall. It will be a practical session so come along with your cameras and other gear. Non-members welcome.
A ceilidh in memory of Alex Maclean is being held at Kilmallie Community Centre, Corpach, on Saturday March 16 at 7.30pm. Admission is £8 and tea, coffee and homebaking will be served. A raffle will also take place. Bring your own bottle. Money raised will be donated to Lochaber Foodbank and Alzheimer’s Scotland.
