Volunteers required for second Oban Spring Clean

-

Following a highly successful event in 2018, the Keep Oban Beautiful (KOB) group is once again urging townspeople to ‘pick a patch’ to clean at the end of the month.

Businesses, streets, groups, clubs, individuals and other organisations are being invited to dedicate the week, culminating March 30-31, to the Oban Spring Clean 2019.

Maurice Wilkins, Claire Rizos and other volunteers from KOB are inviting anyone interested in helping with the town-wide clean-up to get in touch with others from their chosen ‘patch’ and sign up using the details below.

‘In an ideal world, we wouldn’t have to have an Oban Spring Clean as everyone, including businesses, schools, tourists and locals, along with the council, would all do their bit to make sure our streets are clean and tidy. Until then, however, it’s great that the community all join together for this event.’

Litter-picking equipment will be available to borrow during the weekend from Rockfield Community Centre, which will once again be the event’s hub.

Support is also coming from the GRAB Trust, a charitable social enterprise that has been backing activities linked to litter and recycling in Argyll and Bute for 20 years.

‘We are really pleased to be able to support this event again this year and look forward to seeing the town getting involved in keeping Oban beautiful,’ said GRAB Trust project worker Terry Donovan. ‘The GRAB Trust will be hosting a marquee in Station Square on the Saturday.’

People taking part are also being encouraged to take before and after pictures to show off the difference they make, and use #trashtag.

Argyll and Bute Council has once again been asked to provide a cage basket to collect the rubbish which will be picked up on the Monday.
