Glasgow Letter
It's a busy wee time for cèilidhs and concerts in Glasgow – as you will read below. I was disappointed to miss a couple of events this weekend, including a Mòdrun event held in Kibble Palace in the Botanic Gardens featuring a great line up of singers. Mòdrun is a series of cèilidhs running right up until the National Mòd comes to Glasgow in October – so I will be sure to cover the future event.
GGs host successful annual concert
Friday night saw the 126th annual concert for Ceolraidh Gàidhlig Ghlaschu (affectionately known as the GGs) in the fantastic setting of Hyndland Parish Church. I unfortunately could not be in attendance but I had my sources planted.
A great audience were welcomed by piper Jeremy Levif and enjoyed solo performances from Ruaraidh MacIntyre, Carolyn Ferguson, Roisin Chambers, Catherine Tinney, and Gordon McKeeve – plus the GGs new quartet, as well as from the choir themselves, under the baton of Kenneth Thomson.
Chairman for the evening was Donnie Maroot Macleod, who was rewarded for his efforts by winning a prize in the raffle – a day in a health spa. Overall, I hear the evening was a great success and I am told the choir would like to thank to everyone who came along to attend.
Clydebank Highlanders
A great evening of music and song was enjoyed by all at the latest Clydebank ceilidh on Friday night and the committee extend their thanks to all who participated.
The annual Clydebank Association charity cèilidh in aid of Erskine will be held in the Napier Hall, Old Kilpatrick, on Friday March 22 at 7.30pm. Admission at the door includes tea, coffee, and homebaking. All are welcome to the cèilidh which is always a fantastic evening for a tremendous cause. The supper dance with Charlie Kirkpatrick's band will be held in the Napier Hall, Old Kilpatrick, on Saturday March 30. Tickets for that dance are available from the committee members. The evening is BYOB.
Comunn an Taobhan-Iar prepare for next cèilidh
The next Comunn an Taobhan-Iar ceilidh will be held in the Ellangowan Social Club on Thursday March 21 at 7.30pm. The chairman will be Angus Cameron, the piper Kenneth MacFarlane and the artistes Deirdre Graham, Marina MacLeod, Donald Iain Brown, Norman MacKinnon, and instrumentalist Ryan Young. Kirsteen Grant will be the accompanist for the evening.
Tickets at the door, and the price includes tea, coffee, juice, and biscuits at the interval.

Friday March 15: Glasgow Skye Association Cothrom na h-Oigridh (youth concert) in the Crawford Hall, Beith Street, at 7pm. Saturday March 16: Clasaichean Gàidhlig (Gaelic Classes) from Clann Gàidhlig at 10am in the University of the West of Scotland.
Saturday March 16: The Glasgow Lewis and Harris Association ceilidh in the Scotstounhill Bowling Club at 7.30pm featuring Josie Duncan, Hannah Knight, Gordon McKeeve, Alastair MacArthur, and Charles MacLeod.
Saturday March 23: Clann Gàidhlig Cèilidh at 7.15pm in the Wynd Centre, Paisley.
