Spanish blues in Benderloch? Well, doesn't that just take the biscuit

-

A magical evening of medieval and Spanish blues played by a renowned guitarist awaits an audience in Benderloch this Friday night (March 15).

Claude Bourbon headlines at the Victory Hall with his unique and talented take on a wide range of musical traditions.

The French-born virtuoso, now based in Cumbria, is known throughout Europe and America for amazing guitar performances that take blues, Spanish and Middle Eastern stylings into uncharted territories.

Looking ahead to his impending visit to Argyll, Bourbon said: 'It's a long way from Cumbria but it's all worth it.

'It's always a pleasure to come and play in your neck of the woods.'

Bourbon's inimitable style incorporates all five digits on each hand dancing independently but in unison, plucking, picking and strumming at such speed and precision that his fingers often seem to melt into a blur.

Thousands of people in the UK, Europe and USA have enjoyed listening to this talented artist and for the majority of his audience it is an experience that compels them to return again and again to hear and watch him play.

Bourbon weaves his songs through the audience as if on a journey through life taking in different flavours of Europe and beyond. His Spanish medieval blues evolved into gypsy, Eastern European, with a splash of Paco de Lucia, Delta Blues and more, holding audience attention under a musical spell.

A top master of his craft Bourbon never appears to be rushed, as he has impeccable timing and makes things that one can only marvel at seem simple.

Organisers Campbell and Joy Cameron commented: 'Claude describes his music as medieval and Spanish blues but we think he is having us on.

'He does so much more and with talent and flair. He has an amazing wide-ranging ability on the guitar and brings us some great lyrics in his songs.'

Claude has played countless venues, including Glastonbury Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, Colne Great British and Blues Festival, Rock O'Z Arene, Avenches, Switzerland, among others.

He has shared the stage in Europe and the USA with musicians including Calvin Russel, Charlie Morgan (Elton John, Gary Moore), Jan Akkerman (Focus), Steve Grossman (Miles Davis), Herbie Armstrong (Van Morisson), Jose Barrense Dias and many more.

Some of this guitarist's influences will now allow his Argyll audience a fascinating insight into this remarkable musician.

Once again there will be tickets at the door at 7.30pm when the bar opens or in advance for just £10. The concert takes place in the small cosy reading room so tickets will be limited – to book in advance call 01631 720247.
