Lundavra residents voice concerns on area in survey
Employment, housing and community services highlighted in survey
More than 300 people living in Lundavra, Fort William, have voiced concerns over employment, housing and community services.
They had their say in a comprehensive Highland Council survey, to be used as the basis of an action plan to address areas requiring improvement.
In addition, Fort William Community Action Group has invited residents and businesses in the Lundavra Primary School catchment area to share their opinions on transport links, safety, the environment, local employment and housing.
Businesses have also taken part in the survey, raising concerns over recruitment challenges.
Respondents have highlighted the good work of Fort William Town Team in helping keep Fort William High Street and surrounding areas looking nice, the positive improvements at Cameron Square, the increase in the variety of shops and housing development in recent years.
The need for more and improved green spaces and play areas in the town and Upper Achintore was also highighted as a top priority for residents.
Improvements to run down or empty shops and the rectification of ‘staining’ on reclad houses were also called for.
The need for a community centre and more shops in Upper Fort William, parking problems, improvements to the back area of the High Street and the lack of businesses and industry able to offer year-round employment opportunities have been raised.
The Highland Council survey is open until Sunday March 31 so there is still time to have your say.
It can be completed online using a web link on the Highland Council website or paper copies can be found at the Highland Council Service Point and Fort William library.
The catchment area for the survey includes Upper Achintore, Plantation, An Aird, Achintore Road, Seafield Gardens, Belford Road, Cameron Road, Alma Road, Victoria Road and the High Street.
