Writing group calls on Lochaber creatives for anniversary book
A creative writing group in Lochaber is on the hunt for budding wordsmiths to contribute to its forthcoming anniversary publication.
Lochaber Writers’ Group is celebrating its first year and to mark the milestone the group will publish an anthology of work to showcase its writing over the last 12 months. To add to the occasion, the group is looking for submissions from writers throughout Lochaber to feature in the publication.
Iain Jenner, one of the group’s founding members, said: ‘The writers’ group has been going for just over a year now and we’re going to produce an anthology of work from the core group that have stuck with it since it started – about seven of us. We want to partly promote the group and also encourage other folk by having an open submission section.’
Once submissions have been collected, the group’s editorial committee will select their favourite entries to be printed as ‘external contributions’. They hope to have the book on sale by Friday June 21.
This first publication will be funded by the writers, although the £5 cover price will help to recoup printing costs.
Mr Jenner is excited about showcasing the group’s work and hopefully inspiring other writers to get involved.
‘I’m really looking forward to it. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’ve really enjoyed the writers’ group. It’s great to write and just step away for a while.’
Contributors must be aged 16 or older and live in Lochaber. Each submission must be the author’s own work and in English. Writers can submit either one piece of prose up to 2,000 words in length, or up to three short pieces of poetry. All must be submitted electronically in Word format to lochaberwriters@gmail.com The closing date for contributions is noon on Sunday April 14.
The editorial committee will review all contributions and its decision is final. Successful contributors will be notified by email.
