Ruthless Lochaber score 103-point victory over Mallaig

-

Report by Lochaber High School pupil Jamie Wegner. Lochaber High School's senior basketball team beat Mallaig High School 112-9 in a friendly match on Monday February 11.

The home team raced into a 33-0 point lead after the first quarter, with Alan Hamilton leading the individual scoring on 12 points.

Mallaig were unable to match the relentlessness of Lochaber's zonal defence throughout the contest, with Mallaig's weak defence constantly exposed on the fast break.

Lochaber stretched their lead to 46 points at half time, with the score 53-7, after Lochaber changed their lineup leading to a much closer second quarter.

Even though Mallaig scored a couple of excellent three-pointers against the run of play to reduce the scoreline, they were chasing an unassailable lead.

It got worse for Mallaig as Lochaber continued to dominate, ending the third quarter with an 84-9 lead, scoring 31 points.

As the Mallaig legs started to tire in the fourth quarter, they conceded 28 without reply to complete this dominant performance. Alan Hamilton led on points, with 29, followed by Lachie Shaw on 26. After the game, Lochaber player Johnny Foster said: ‘We're delighted with the win and it was good to experiment with the squad.' Shooting guard Jack Hamilton added: ‘Before the game, I was confident in our team's ability and we proved it on the court.'
