Sofa so good as LORI celebrates

-

Lorn and Oban Reuse Initiative (LORI) has been awarded Revolve certification for a third time, in the same year that the reuse centre is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Shopping at Revolve-certified stores means that items have been checked for quality, safety and cleanliness against Scotland’s reuse quality standard Revolve, which is awarded by Zero Waste Scotland. Revolve certification lasts for two years and there are currently 150 Revolve-certified stores across Scotland.

Operating seven days a week from the Civic Amenity Site at Moleigh near Oban, LORI supports the circular economy and provides quality reuse furniture, household goods and electricals at affordable prices, while also working with other organisations to support some of the most vulnerable people in the local community.

Initially a social enterprise in its own right, LORI was absorbed into the work of The GRAB Trust in 2011. Thousands of reusable items needlessly end up in landfill in Scotland each year.

By choosing to buy from or donate to reuse stores, valuable products and materials can be repurposed and used for longer – saving money, supporting local communities and protecting the environment in the process.

Congratulations

Catherine Bozec, consumer campaigns manager at Zero Waste Scotland, said: ‘It is wonderful to see Lorn and Oban Reuse Initiative receive Revolve status for a third time, and our congratulations must go to the team for their hard work in maintaining these standards over the past 10 years.

‘Revolve provides Scotland’s reuse organisations with the training, support and advice they need to give customers the assurance that items they purchase are of good quality, creating a similar shopping experience to buying new.

‘Buying items from a Revolve-certified store not only helps Scotland make the best use of its natural resources, it also helps to reduce the number of items going to landfill each year.’

Graham Love, general manager, The GRAB Trust, added: ‘We are very proud to have achieved Revolve certification for a third time, in our tenth year of operation.

‘By purchasing items from LORI, people are supporting our work in the local community as well as helping us to divert over 60 tons of waste from landfill each year.

‘Operating the Revolve quality mark ensures our customers have peace of mind when purchasing from us, including a 30-day no quibble guarantee on all home electrical items, which are function tested and PAT tested prior to being offered for sale.’
