Limited parking is available at the forest track entrance SW of Dalnatrat, NM967530. Follow the track up Salachan Glen. At NM977526 a new track heads steeply up to the right to reach open hillside and the NE ridge of Beinn Sgluich. Follow the ridge to the summit, 466m.

Continue on the high ground heading SW to a break in the trees on Appin Hill at NM 942489. Keeping to the high ground, follow the edge of the conifer plantation SW to its corner at NM932476. Head for the church at Portnacroi­sh, NM927473, walking through mature deciduous woodland. Pass through the churchyard, cross the A828 and continue down to the cycle track. Follow this SE to the car park in Appin opposite the church, NM938459. Transport required. An alternativ­e route from Appin Hill descends SW to Glenstockd­ale and follows the track to Kinlochlai­ch Farm. Continue to reach the A828, turn left and follow it to the bridge. Turn left along the cycle track to the car park opposite Appin Church as above.

Grade: M. Distance: 12km. Height to climb: 450m. Maps LR49 EX384. Meet at: Ballachuli­sh TIC (NN083584) at 0910. Start of walk: southwest of Dalnatrat (NM967530) at 0930. Leader: TBC. Thursday October 24, Black Rock Cottage to Ba Bridge. Starting at Black Rock cottage the walk goes over an 18th century bridge and follows the old military road to Ba Bridge – a good picnic site. On return, a lower track – part of the West Highland Way – is followed. This was the original road before the A82 was built in the ‘30s.

Binnein Mor, Glen Nevis. An adventurou­s route, much of it well off the usual approaches to these fine hills, isolated at the eastern end of the Mamores. Binnein Mor is the highest in this range.

Start from the CP at the end of the public road in Glen Nevis, NN167691. Follow path beside the Water of Nevis to a safe place to cross the river at approximat­ely NN230694. Climb SW for 1.3km up rough ground to cross the stalkers’ path below the steep upper slopes of Binnein Beag. Turn S up to the summit, 943m. Descend SW to the saddle between Binnein Beag and Binnein Mor*.

Climb Binnein Mor by the fine NE ridge or if conditions dictate, climb the N ridge which is more straightfo­rward. Descend the N ridge, find a safe crossing of the Water of Nevis, and return by the outgoing route.

*For a shorter route, descend from the saddle, omitting Binnein Mor.
