International boxers on show at Lochaber event

-

Lochaber Phoenix Boxing Club is to stage its most ambitious home show to date with bouts featuring its own boxers and action between members of the Scotland and England development squads.

Tickets are already at a premium for the November 2 event, with tables and tickets for tiered seating in the main Nevis Centre hall selling out in days.

The evening will feature male and female bouts, with Lochaber boxers Siobhan Duncan and Farquhar MacRae hopefully taking the ring for the first time in front of a home crowd.

This excitement will be balanced by planned appearances from the club’s own champions Cameron Whyte, Josh Dieguno and Kevin Aitchison, all with track records of battling and winning against opponents from across the country.

Match-making such well recognised and skillful athletes is a difficult task and, as is fairly usual in amateur boxing, confirming an opponent of equal stature is often a last minute achievement, so there may be changes to the line-up on the night.

Training at the club has been under way for months, although getting back into peak shape after the summer break demands concentration and dedication, neither of which are lacking in the local club. While tickets may be in short supply, there a still a few opportunities to sponsor bouts or individual boxers, all of which will help in what is one of Lochaber Phoenix’s main fund raising events of the year, especially important as it searches for new premises.
