Project is shining a light on Oban

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

Thank you to everyone who came along on Tuesday for the switching on of the Shine a Light on Oban project and to everyone who made it happen.

Special thanks to Drew and his team from Ark, McNiven Electrics, Oban FM, Councillor Elaine Robertson, the Common Good Fund, Iain Darling and Declan from The Lorne for providing the food, and the Dove Centre for handling the distribution of it.

Hopefully, this will only be the start of efforts to highlight our wee forgotten corners and show off the hidden treasures lurking in the dark.

I’m going to have a wee rant now, well maybe just blow off some steam on a personal level.

Elvis isn’t coming on Saturday any more because not enough tickets were sold. It seems to be an Oban thing to put off buying tickets until the very last minute, and I am as guilty as the next person, but it means lots of really good shows don’t make it as far as Oban in case they don’t cover their costs.

So a plea from someone who’s missed quite a few events because they’ve been cancelled due to lack of ticket sales. Please, please don’t leave it too late. If you want to go, get your tickets as soon as you can.

On a cheerier note, if you enjoy a good tabletop sale – and who doesn’t? – then this Saturday is your lucky day as Oban and Lorn Lions are holding a sale in the Guide Hall on Soroba Road between 11am and 3pm, with tea, coffee and homebaking available. It’s on most of the bus routes and nice and near the Lochavullin car park for taking all your purchases home.

In the evening, the Columba Hotel has a murder mystery evening with dinner included, The Lost Soul of the Lingering Laird, so if you think you can solve the mystery get your tickets now.

I’ve done it again, I can’t remember where I took last week’s photograph, so if you’ve spotted it can you please let me know – I really need to start writing them down. This week’s is a nice easy one.
