Spean Bridge win cross country event

-

On a wet and windy day there were some impressive performances at this year’s Lochaber Primaries Cross Country Running Championships.

Spean Bridge retained the Samuel and Partner’s overall schools’ shield with first place in the boys’ event and second in both the boys’ and girls’ races.

Second overall were Invergarry Primary and Caol Primary came in third.

The fastest time of the day was posted by Ross Loughray, in 09.58, an improvement of 17 seconds and two places from last year. Spean Bridge team-mate Jack Bamber came in second, in 10.08 with Caleb Stoddart from Caol Primary taking third place in 10.19.

In the girls’ event, first place was secured by Chloe Cameron from Lochaline Primary, who crossed the finish line in a time of 11.36, 14 seconds faster than her winning time from last year and over a minute faster than the next girl.

Kaedie-Lei Neville from Spean (who came in fourth last year) secured second with Leona from Mallaig taking third place. Only in P5, and running against many children a year or two her senior, Leona is definitely one to watch for the future.

The Active Schools organisers thanked all participants, parents and staff who came along to support the event as well as the enthusiastic team of marshals from Lochaber High School.
