Awards ahoy for west coast cruise operator

-

Mini cruise operator The Majestic Line is looking to sail off with some silverware after being shortlisted for a brace of industry awards.

In the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards 2019, the Dunoon-based west coast travel operator has been nominated in the Innovation in Tourism category, and it is up for the Favourite Special Cruise Line title at the prestigious Wave Awards.

Marie McGhee, from Majestic Line (Scotland) Ltd marketing team, said: ‘The Innovation in Tourism category was a great achievement for us after the recent launch of our fourth small ship, Glen Shiel earlier this year.

‘The Innovation category includes expansion, especially when it benefits local communities. In our case providing employment during the build of the ship at Ardmaleish plus additional crew.

‘Our fourth ship has also helped increase tourism spending in the west coast of Scotland.’

The Highlands and Islands Awards, now in their 15th year, identify, highlight and reward excellence throughout the hospitality and tourism industries within the area.

For 2019, there are 15 awards up for grabs covering the various facets of the customer/visitor experience of our tourism industry.

The winners will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony and dinner which will take place on Friday November 1, in Inverness.

Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards are working with the Scottish Thistle Awards again this year and each category winner, with the exception of Our Highland Rising Star and Highland Ambassador, will automatically become a finalist at the Scottish Thistle Awards final in March 2020.

The Wave Awards celebrate the best of the UK’s cruise industry. The Oscars of cruising, they recognise excellence and innovation in an industry continuously evolving to deliver exceptional experience, both on board and ashore.

‘We were so pleased to be a finalist in 2019 in the Best Specialist Cruise Line category, and you can imagine how delighted we were to find out we had been shortlisted again in the Favourite Specialist Cruise Line section,’ said Marie.

Voting for the Wave Awards is now open and closes on December 31. Anyone who wishes to vote can do so at https://www.worldofcruising.co.uk/vote

The Majestic Line was also a finalist in two categories, Best Use of Scottish Produce and Your Hidden Gem, of the Scotsman Food and Drink Awards 2019 earlier this year.
