SLT make return to winning ways
Match report by Peter Newman South Lochaber Thistle returned to winning ways with a hard-fought victory over a talented Eaglesham side.
The first half began with both sides trying to play decent football and the new midfield pairing of Barna Tot – freshly returned from injury – and Andrew Maclean energetically harried and harassed the Glaswegians to deny them any rhythm.
Up front, captain for the day was stalwart Dave Forbes, partnering Gordon McCreadie. Forbes would go on to put in a man-ofthe-match display in his new position, offering class and composure while headlining the attack.
It was Eaglesham who took the lead on the half hour. A drilled cross-cum-shot into the box was slammed into the net by unfortunate left back John Ferguson in an own goal against the run of play.
In the second half, the Jags stepped up the pressure and McCreadie levelled the scores with a smartly-taken header for 1-1.
Building on this momentum, Forbes met a lofted ball into the box with a determined header which allowed the keeper no chance as Thistle took the lead.
Despite some high quality play from both sides, this was how the scores remained.
Manager Alan Gray said: ‘It was a thoroughly professional performance today; the attitude was right and the balance of the team was better than it has been in recent weeks. Eaglesham are a good side and we had to be at our best today. We battled as a team and we got the rewards our play deserved and I just wanted to say well done to all of the boys today on a hard-fought win.’
