Pupils get animated over mid-term break

-

Creative youngsters from all over Argyll took part in an animation and film course run by Screen Argyll in conjunction with BFI Film Academy over the October holiday.

A total of 15 students, aged 16-19 years old, signed up for the week-long programme at Oban High School, during which they developed their own ideas from rough sketches to the big screen.

Working alongside professional animators and film makers, the budding film makers explored and experimented with a range of animation and film-making techniques before producing their own works which will be premiered at a Film Exhibition Event and Oban Pheonix Cinema on November 24.

Skills worked on included script writing, model making, animation, video editing, lighting for camera and sound design.

‘I have really enjoyed the technical side of the course and it’s definitely something I would like to look into doing more of,’ said 16-year-old Cameron Collings from Oban.

Programme co-ordinator Brodie Sim said: 'We have been blown away by some of the work the Argyll students have created this week.

‘Each group came up with and developed their own ideas resulting in a totally eclectic range of short films which are all ready to hit the big screen.’

Making a guest appearance at the week-long course was industry professional Sara Harkins, currently working as Outlander training manager.

Sara’s input along with that of creative practitioners, Alasdair Satchel, Jim Parkyn and Jack Lockhart proved invaluable throughout the week.

‘We have learned so much from this week and it has really given me a great insight into the film industry and how things are put together,’ said Oban High School pupil Anakaven Maidonado.
