Festive fun this weekend

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

I usually look forward to a wee lull after the summer season finishes and the runup to Christmas begins, but this year it hasn’t happened.

The season has just finished and here we are getting ready for Christmas!

We’re heading into a busy weekend full of fantastic things to do, but for me the crowning glory is the Reindeer Parade on Saturday night. I love everything about it, from the excitement of seeing the first reindeer led into their pen at the Corran Halls, to the anticipation of watching for Santa arriving at his sleigh and the sheer joy and excitement on the faces of children as the parade begins and we follow the pipe band down George Street culminating in the switching on of the Christmas lights, especially the tree in Argyll Square. It’s magical.

This year Santa and the reindeer have an extra job to do before the main event as they’re nipping up to Eader Glinn to visit residents.

This will be followed by a Holly Tea at 1.30pm, to which everyone is welcome, in aid of the residents’ Comfort Fund.

Unfortunately the reindeer won’t be able to stick around as they have to have a rest before pulling Santa and his two companions through the town.

Don’t forget to check the Town Diary and the Winter Festival events guide to keep up-to-date with everything that’s on.

The photograph last week was of a window beside the door at Oban Parish Church. This week’s is a bit harder but if you went to school in Oban it’s a blast from the past.
