Ìleachs produce spoof video

-

Pupils from Islay High School’s FilmG Club had a great time taking part in a very special learning experience.

The event was organised by Comunn na Gàidhlig Gaelic officer Lynn MacLean and the group, made up of Gaelic learners, now has an 10 members who have been attending weekly sessions to plan their FilmG entry.

The workshop, which was one of 35 being delivered by FilmG across Scotland, gave the children a unique opportunity to work with a professional filmmaker and actor to make a five-minute short film in Gaelic which they can enter into a competition being run by FilmG.

The FilmG project has been running for 12 years and the youth category has grown beyond all expectation, from 12 films in the first year to 70 entries last year, the bulk of which come through FilmG’s workshops programme.

Last week, pupils on Islay worked under the guidance of freelance filmmaker, writer and actor Dòmhnall Eòghainn MacKinnon.

Originally from Scalpay, Dòmhnall Eòghainn is also a recent graduate of Glasgow Caledonian University’s MA

Television Fiction Writing course, and appears in BBC Alba’s Bannan.

Pupils prepared their own script, props and locations ready for their day of filming, followed by a day of editing. Their film is a comic take on struggles between old and new in a spoof tourism video, featuring an unexpected monstrous presence.

They were lucky enough to secure Islay House and the surrounding grounds as a location. The young creatives look forward to revealing it to audiences when the FilmG entries go live in December.

The FilmG deadline is December 10, for more information, visit filmg.co.uk
