No pain, no gain for Oban’s squash ladies

-

After the huge success of last year, Oban Ladies Squash Camp was back again this year.

The slogan for Bootcamp 2019 was ‘Believe To Achieve’ and the ladies took that to heart.

This year’s event took place over two days at the end of September when mud, water, sweat and some tears were in evidence. A record number of 27 women from Oban Squash Team completed an assault course of log carrying, sand crawling, sea tug of war, weighted tasks and other torturous activities on day one of the camp at Ganavan.

Thanks go to Jemma Campbell of Fit With You Bootcamp who put the ladies through their paces for the hour-long warm up before the start.

Thanks also go to the marshals on the day: Christine Roberts of MacNiven Electrics and Roddy MacKenzie and Robin MacQueen of MacQueen Bros, who also supplied the ladies with changing facilities. Day two was squash centred and conducted by former world ranking women’s player and now one of Scotland’s top female coaches Lisa McKenna at Atlantis Leisure.

Lisa gave a presentation of what it takes to be a professional squash player followed by on court training, drills, game play and a question and answer session.

The weekend ended with a prizegiving and barbecue.

Organised by Colin MacNiven, Oban Ladies Squash Team coach, the event succeeded in pushing the ladies to new levels of fitness and personal achievement.

Oban Ladies Squash Team wish to thank Neil McGougan Building Contractors who proudly sponsored the event again in 2019. Their support is greatly appreciated.

The team continues to go from strength to strength in
