VIEW FROM THE CHAMBER
Lochaber Ideas Week is in full flow and it’s fantastic to see the business connections being forged, friendships struck up and ideas taking flight.
This week truly is a celebration of ideas – with expert seminars on ways to think differently about what you do, improve the way you do it and find the motivation to achieve what you really want.
Have you heard the phrase: ‘If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got’?
One of the key themes of the first few days’ seminars has been the need to keep our thinking fresh, to explore widely, to challenge ourselves to try new things, read different views and take our inspiration from a range of disciplines.
There’s so much to learn from making unexpected connections, and huge potential to learn from different industries and areas about ways to improve our own work.
It’s tempting to focus on our own job, our own sector, our own bubble, but both JohnPaul Hughes in his creativity seminar and Cath Bishop in her high-performance seminar stressed the importance of looking around and learning from other areas, and being open to different ways of doing things.
It’s a very apt message for Lochaber Ideas Week – this whole week is a chance to take a break from ploughing your own furrow and to discover what other people are doing.
Learning from each other, thinking about the bigger picture and exploring new ideas is what it’s all about.
There’s still time for you to be a part of it – join us tomorrow (Friday November 22) for the ‘Go for your Goals’ seminar with motivational guru Don MacNaughton and get the benefit of his plain-speaking guidance to living your best life!
