Premiere screening for Argyll film students

-

Secondary pupils from Argyll took to the red carpet on Sunday when Oban Phoenix Cinema premiered 12 short animated films created by the students, writes Fiona Scott.

Screen Argyll brought young people aged 16-19 together at Oban High School in October for a week-long animation course as part of the BFI film academy.

This intensive programme included hands-on film-making workshops where the young people were given the skills to develop an idea from rough sketch to big screen.

The course gave them the opportunity to work with professional animators and film-makers on script writing, model making, animation, video editing, lighting for camera and sound design.

The students used these new skills to work together to create their own animations before presenting them at a screening which they created and coordinated.

BFI Film Academy coordinator Brodie Sim said: 'We were really impressed by the films created by the Argyll students. During this process they have gained a deeper insight into the industry, enabling them to identify areas they may want to pursue and a greater understanding of how to progress.

'It also offers the chance to gain a qualification which they can include in their CVs and the opportunity to submit their film into a variety of festivals.'

The result was an eclectic mix of animated media which challenged the large audience present at Sunday's screening.

Following a questionand-answer session, all the students received a certificate in recognition of their achievements.
