The Oban Times

WHO IS THIS?

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

I’m getting off the Christmas bandwagon this week because of a message on Facebook praising the young people in Oban High School Pipe Band who recently accompanied Skerryvore at the Trad Awards in Aberdeen and saying what wonderful ambassadors they are for Oban, which I agree with wholeheartedly.

A number of these very talented young people have helped me to welcome cruise visitors to the town over the summer months and without fail they have been polite, punctual, friendly and just lovely.

In fact, whenever I have encountered OHS Pipe Band, they have all been a credit to their families and school, and they are not alone.

There are so many young people doing wonderful things in our community in their own way, from all the sporting teams who put so much effort into their training and playing to bring credit to their team, the solo competitors who slog away to improve their times and travel so far to take part in events, singers and dancers and musicians who work so hard to perfect their craft and entertain us.

Then there are all those who work away quietly as young carers, helping out at home, volunteers with local groups trying to improve things for others and all the ones just trying to cope with a world that puts such huge pressures on them.

We have such a lot to be proud of in the young people in our community and I think they deserve to hear it a bit more often – they’re all wonderful ambassadors for our community.

The photograph last week was of the top of the old Hydro Electric shop at the top of George Street.

No clues this week, but does anyone recognise this man?
