Warm welcome for new Lochnell head
Lochnell Primary School welcomed its new head teacher last month.
Louise Chisholm, former Kinlochleven Primary School head teacher, has settled in over the past few weeks and was inspired to take up the position after watching the pupils speak about how proud they were of the school.
Children created an online video advertising the vacancy, highlighting all that is good within the school, as well as revealing qualities they would like in a head teacher.
Ms Chisholm told The Oban Times: ‘My first impression of Lochnell Primary School was gained through watching the video made by staff and children as part of the head teacher recruitment process.
‘The way in which the children spoke of their sense of belonging and how proud they were of the school, alongside the staff commitment and teamwork to improving learner outcomes, prompted me to apply for the post.
‘During the selection process, I met with pupils, staff and Parent Council members in the school and it became clear the ethos of the school was built on compassion, kindness and respect.’
Originally from Falkirk, Ms Chisholm, who has lived in Ballachulish for 20 years, has an abundance of experience in a variety of different roles.
Prior to becoming a teacher, she helped run an engineering company, which her husband now manages.
However, she has also worked in everything from health and safety to being a park ranger.
Her diverse experience has allowed her to build transferable skills that she has brought to her current role.
‘Since taking up the post two weeks ago, I have been warmly welcomed by the entire school and local community,’ Ms Chisholm added.
‘I am grateful for the support shown to me everyone at Lochnell Primary and Nursery as well as Argyll and Bute Council.
‘Mrs Alison Ralston, previously acting head teacher, has been wonderful in helping me integrate into the school and it was particularly special to receive a lovely card from Mrs Shirley Mathieson, who had been head teacher for 18 years offering her support.
‘I feel both honoured and privileged to be able to take over the leadership of such an inclusive school community and look forward to building upon the successes already achieved.’
