Young Oban golfers will benefit from £500 donation
Junior golfers in Oban will benefit as a result of a £500 donation from a new business in the town.
Argyll Wealth Consultants gifted the sum to Glencruitten Junior Golf Club, which has benefited from a surge in youngsters picking up the sport following the success of Glencruitten’s very own Robert ‘Bob’ MacIntyre.
Bob was crowned the 2019 European Tour Rookie of the Year after making seven top 10 finishes on his first tour season.
Russell Anderson and Bruce MacNab from the business gifted the cheque to the club, which was accepted by Neil Armour and Bob.
Speaking to The Oban Times, Russell said: ‘We thought it would be a good cause to support. When you see Glencruitten have produced Robert, we have to hope that maybe there might be one or two in the future as well.’
Bruce added: ‘I am a keen golfer and we are keen to get involved in the community as we have just opened a new office in Oban.’
The Tarbert man, who has known Bob for some years, said he has helped rejuvenate golf throughout Argyll and Scotland.
Neil Armour, junior coach at Glencruitten Golf Club, said: ‘Bob has made a difference in the number of juniors we have playing now. It has come on leaps and bounds since his success.’
Junior golfers at Glencruitten are supplied with clubs by the junior section, which also has to cover travel and other expenses. Neil added: ‘Money like this helps with all that.’
