Lochaber Air Training Corps honours 75 years of service

-

Members of 1730 (Lochaber) Squadron, Air Training Corps (ATC) and representatives of the Highland Wing came together last month to celebrate the exceptional commitment of Alan Lamb, who has spent 75 years serving the organisation.

Mr Lamb, who was also minister of Arisaig Parish Church, first joined the ATC in 1944 when he became a cadet in Wembley.

In 1968, he took on the role of padre of 16F Squadron (Middlesex Wing), assuming the same role in Lochaber in 1995. Two years later, he stepped up to become padre to the Highland Wing. In more recent times, Mr lamb has been a valuable member of the Lochaber Squadron Committee, a role from which he is now stepping down.

Addressing Mr Lamb, his wife Helen and the assembled guests, present commanding officer, Sgt James Liddell, said: ‘I remember when I first met Alan who, as padre, enrolled me as a cadet. It has been my honour to be able to work alongside him, not just as a cadet but also as an adult member of the squadron staff. Alan has played a big role in helping cadets from when they were just starting out and through their journey.

‘He was always on hand to give help to anyone and had time to sit down and listen before offering advice. It was a shock to hear he was stepping down from the committee and I would like to say on behalf of everyone in the squadron, thank you for your years of service and commitment.’

Guests at Ben Nevis Distillery included Highland Wing’s Wing Commander Christine Copsey; committee members Craig Murray and David Ogg; ex-padre Donald MacCorkindale; staff members/civilian instructors, Ailsa and Stevie McAleer and Siobhan Sharkey and ex-staffer Glen Liddell.
