Swim or row the length of Loch Ness for Nevis Radio

-

Nevis Radio is running another ‘Loch Ness Challenge’ to help raise funds for the station.

The event, which starts on January 4, 2020, involves swimming or rowing the length of Scotland’s most famous loch, a distance of 22 and a half miles, in 12 weeks.

This will not involve taking an extended leave of absence from your job, camping out on the frosty shores and bumping into a mythical creature, as the challenge can be completed at a pool or fitness centre when time permits.

It is a great way says Pam Weller, to get fit, organiser of the event, also known as Mrs W when co-hosting with husband John on the station.

She said: ‘We did the same event in 2018 and it went very well. It is an opportunity for people to make a start on those January fitness goals that can fall by the wayside after a few weeks and raise money for their local radio station.

‘You can do it on your own, in a team or donate to some of the presenters or teams who are already taking part. We have a team from the British Legion, the Fort William Town Team and some B&Bs already signed up. It’s a great way to support your community. Presenters will be taking part as well and updating everyone on how well we are doing.

‘So join in the fun and get fit as well.’

Money raised will help the station run its accredited DJ course, standard grade qualification and expanding the MOWI Live Lounge that spotlights local musicians.

As part of the last challenge, a disabled man completed the 22 and a half miles on a hand bike at a gym.
