New local beer is helping raise funds for mountain rescue team
Every time someone buys a bottle or cask of Ben Nevis Brewery’s new special ‘Callout’ beer, a donation goes to help the vital work of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team (LMRT).
The nano brewery, based in Annat, created the beer especially to raise funds for Scotland’s busiest mountain rescue team.
Brewer and owner Simon Delvaux created Callout last month and retailers are reported to have been struggling to keep up with demand.
The idea to make a mountain rescue beer was something Simon and the brewery’s sales, social media and marketing specialist Freja MacDougall had wanted to do since the brewery was launched earlier this year. ‘We want to make beer that celebrates the culture and community of Lochaber – the rescue team are a huge part of that and with us both knowing so many of the men and women on the team we thought it’s the least we can do,’ Freja told us.
‘Everyone visiting Lochaber this winter to head into the hills will hopefully spot the beer in the shop or the pub and realise how invaluable the team really is and why it is important to support them.
‘Buying a bottle of beer or a pint in order to give a donation isn’t too much of a hardship either!’
Every bottle and cask of Callout sold guarantees a donation to the team and the unique label design showcases a popular photograph from the team archives featuring an RAF helicopter and around 15 original members of the team, including founding member Jimmy Ness.
The beer itself is very lager-like but not a lager. It is a smooth and flavoursome Belgian pale ale with a hefty 6.2% ABV.
To get your hands on some or fill a stocking or two this Christmas head to Clan Jamfrie on the High Street in Fort William for bottles or Garrison West for a pint on draft.
