Calendar binman shares out bumper funds to good causes
Mull binman Colin Morrison, whose island snapshots became an online hit, has made more than £10,000 for charity, writes Kathie Griffiths.
All the money made from his 2020 calendar featuring the best of his photographs has now been paid out and shared between 10 good causes.
Some of the images have also been transferred to canvas to go up in the island’s hospital and at Bowmore Court in Craignure.
The 48-year-old from Tobermory, who has been working the world’s most scenic rubbish round for more than a decade, originally ordered just 500 copies of the calendars starring stunning Mull, but they sold out in just one day. Due to popular demand, including far flung requests from New Zealand and America, he had to order 1,500 more.
‘All this wouldn’t have been possible without all the help I received,’ he said.

Tobermory Stores got a special mention as did artist Aaron de la Hayé who auctioned off a painting, the calendar’s sponsors, all the shops which sold it and even the ‘fantastic press’, including The Oban Times, which helped to spread the word.
‘So thank you all, and last but not least, thank you for buying the calendars and helping island causes. I’d also like to thank Argyll and Bute Council for its support throughout my photo taking.’
Mull Army Cadets got £1,500, Bowman Court received £1,000, another £1,000 went to Mull and Iona community hospital, Dervaig School’s playground appeal got £1,000 and £1,000 each also went to Tobermory Christmas Lights and Fireworks Display. Feis Mhuile was given £500, children’s Gaelic choir Coisir Og Mhuile received £1,000 and so did Tobermory School Pipe Band and Mull and Iona Pipe Band.
