Blast from the past kicks off Benderloch hall centenery year
Centenary celebrations at Benderloch's Victory Hall got off the ground last week with a nostalgic look back at the village's past, writes Fiona Scott.
A large audience gathered at the venue when Bob McCulloch brought his Old Benderloch Slide Show to the hall last Thursday night.
A huge variety of photographs, some more than 100 years old, covered a variety of topics such as village buildings, including Connel Bridge, and transport, as well as people from the past and present.
Bob McCulloch gave an excellent talk and many in the audience had extra information to add.
The Victory Hall committee thanked everyone who came along and Bob, who started the centenary celebrations with such a fine look-back.
Next month's celebrations have a musical theme and on Friday February 14 the hall plays host to an award-winning traditional band with a contemporary twist.
Hot off the stage from Celtic Connections comes GNOSS and the hall committee is delighted to announce that the band will have superb support. A group of local young pipers will be playing from their repertoire and share stories of time spent in chanter and piping classes led by world champion piper Angus MacColl, of Benderloch, who has taught many children over the years through regular classes in the Victory Hall.
The next few months will see open club nights when members of the public will get the chance to join indoor bowls and badminton, as well as various exhibitions and events around children's entertainment, the natural world and theatre– just a few of the regular items enjoyed by Victory Hall users.
