Mid Argyll indoor athletics competition
Mid Argyll Athletic Club are reminding boys and girls in the local area and beyond that the annual Mid Argyll competition of sports hall athletics will be held this Sunday, January 26. The competition will be held in the games hall and gymnasium at Lochgilphead Joint Campus.
The competition is the first of four local area events being held in Argyll this winter promoted by Mid Argyll Athletic Club with support from Mull Athletic Club, Campbeltown Running Club and Atlantis Leisure in Oban. The next local area competition will be at Atlantis Leisure in Oban on Sunday February 23 followed a week later with the Kintyre contest on Sunday March 1 in Campbeltown Grammar School. A date for the Mull contest held in Tobermory High School will be confirmed in the next few days. Successful athletes from the local area competitions will qualify to take part in the Argyll final with the date for the Argyll final at Atlantis Leisure in Oban on Sunday March 22. It was originally planned to hold the final on March 29 but due to a clash with the Music and Dance Festival in Oban that weekend, Atlantis Leisure kindly arranged to host the event on the March 22.
Specialist equipment is used for various running, jumping and throwing events bringing the excitement of track and field athletics indoors in a warm and dry environment. This event on Sunday provides an ideal opportunity for young boys and girls to come along and try athletics for the first time.
The Mid Argyll competition will start at noon this Sunday, with all entries on the day from 11.30am. There will be awards for the overall winners in each age category and medals for all competitors. Age groups start at under seven, then under nine, under 11, under 13, under 15 and under 17. Age is taken as on September 1 2019 and an entry fee of £2 per competitor will be levied or £5 for families of three or more competitors.
