Ballachulish gin distillery scoops four gongs at the World Gin Awards

-

It selects the very best in gins from around the world and now two gold and two silver medals at the World Gin Awards 2020 have been picked up by Pixel Spirits.

The distillery is based at the back of the Loch Leven Hotel in North Ballachulish and the awards come for two of Pixel Spirit’s own gins and two it produces exclusively for Fyne Malts of Inveraray.

The popular Devil’s Staircase picked up a gold award in the Contemporary Style Gin category and Drookit Piper managed a silver in the Classic category.

The Ginveraray varieties produced for Fyne Malts both took home golds; Foxy in the Classic category and Katty in the Contemporary.

Awards are split by country and awarded as far away as Australia, Japan and Brazil.

A statement from The Scottish Gin Society read: ‘Winning a medal at these prestigious awards is a huge achievement for any gin brand, so we were absolutely delighted to see so many of our wonderful Scottish Gins receiving awards, alongside the highest quality gin brands from countries all over the world.’

The team at Pixel was delighted at doing so well at the awards, saying: ‘2020 is already off to an outstanding start for us.’

While missing out on the Best classification, the team at Pixel is a small outfit, focusing on hand-foraging local botanicals to create the gins, which come in batches of less than 80 bottles.

Craig and Noru Innes – who run the company – are now looking to the future and hoping people vote for The Devil’s Staircase in The Scottish Gin Society’s Consumer Choice Awards 2020.

Voting for the awards is open until February 7 and Isle of Harris gin has won the last two years.

The Scottish Gin Society said of the awards last year: ‘It was far from a one-horse race and the results showed the amazing diversity that exists within the Scottish Gin industry, with the top 10 being an exciting mix of big and small brands.’
