National coach puts Oban players through their paces

-

Squash royalty was welcomed to Atlantis Leisure on Saturday in the form of Scottish national coach Paul Bell.

A fantastic day was had by all as the high performance trainer spent the morning with the Oban Tennis and Squash Club juniors before turning his attention to the senior players in the afternoon.

Lesley Fraser, who along with Kenny Drummond and Grant Addison coach the juniors every Saturday, said: ‘I am super proud of our junior squash players today.

‘Apart from the tots, all the juniors had a session with Paul who put them through their paces on the courts. They all demonstrated great manners, respect and ability to follow instructions to the mark.

‘I also feel very proud of our coaching team which consists of Kenny

Drummond, Grant Addison and myself. The kids proved that what we are doing every Saturday is working.’

The afternoon saw the turn of the adults as 30 club members took part in five different group sessions with everyone enjoying every second of their court time with Paul.

Oban Tennis and Squash Club convener Jackie Kersley commented: ‘It’s the first time we’ve had the Scottish Squash national coach at the club and, hopefully, it won’t be the last.’

‘His knowledge, coaching skills and coaching technique were invaluable to everyone.

‘Many thanks to Oban’s own Martin Heath, former squash world number four, for helping to organise this event for our club. A fantastic day was had by everyone.’

Anyone wanting any information on the squash club should get in touch with Jackie on 07816 459503.
