Gaelic-medium pupils in film appeal for new head teacher
Parent council steps up efforts to fill top post
In a filming project driven by school-based Parent Council Comhairle nam Pàrant Loch Abar, school and nursery pupils showcase their Gaelicmedium school.
The shared hope across the Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar community is the film will grab the attention of a suitable candidate for the vacant Gaelic-speaking head teacher position.
Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar is situated three miles west of Fort William in the village of Caol and children from across Lochaber can attend.
The school recently won the prestigious Gaelic-medium Award at this year’s Scottish
Education Awards, which recognises schools that have developed a positive and progressive approach to Gaelic-medium education.
This is a great achievement for a school that has only been open for four years.
The short production, entitled ‘Tha Feum Againn air Ceannard Ùr!’, which translates to ‘We Need a New
Head Teacher!’, showcases the wonderful school setting, with the panoramic Nevis Range in the background.
The current school roll is 106 children, with 34 children enrolled in the Sgoil-àraich (nursery).
Speaking on behalf of Comhairle nam Pàrant Loch Abar, chairperson Aoibhinn Lawlor said: ‘We know Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar would be perfect for a dynamic, enthusiastic head teacher.
‘We are looking for someone who will build on the successes of the school and has a shared interest in fostering the Gaelic language and culture, which is at the heart of the school’s ethos.
‘If you move to Lochaber you will be rewarded with a lovely friendly school, the opportunity to be part of a wider community and a very good quality of life, in a truly spectacular part of the country. Come and visit us to see.’
On behalf of Comhairle nan Sgoilearan Loch Abar (pupil council), Jack, Evie, Calum, Archie and Shauna shared the following: ‘We hope this video gets shared to lots of possible candidates throughout the Gaelic community. This school is so important to all of us and we would love to have a Gaelic-speaking head teacher that is passionate about being part of our wonderfully unique school community.’
