Deveronvale Fort William

Highland League 2 2

The long journey to Banff saw Fort come away with a wellearned draw in this Highland League encounter against Deveronvale at Princess Royal Park on Saturday.

The hosts were aiming for a return to form after three successive league defeats, while Robert Nevison and Gabriel Hastings were both unavailable for Fort due to suspensions.

Draw

The visitors were looking to build on their away win against Clach the previous weekend, but it was not until the dying minutes of the match that Fort were able to clinch the draw.

For Fort, Garry McIver was making his first team debut today, coming up from the under 17s, while it was good to see Iain Foggo back in a Fort shirt.

Other positives to take away included the cracking performance from youngster Connor Moor, who notched two assists on his first team debut after coming off the bench in the first half.

Ominously

Overall, the home side had only marginally more possession than their visitors. Things, however, began more ominously when just six minutes after the kick off, poor defending from the visitors saw Vale’s Ryan Sargent score the first of his double.

Less than 20 minutes later and Fort got a huge let-off when the home side’s Harry Noble skied a penalty, which hit the bar and went out of play.

Vale’s Kyle Gauld was red carded after a challenge on Garry McIver.

With the home side down to 10 men, Fort started to exert some pressure and Ian MacLennan’s nicely angled finish on the 72-minute mark gave the travelling Fort fans a glimmer of hope.

That was MacLennan’s second goal in two games and with only two minutes of normal time remaining, Fort’s Roddy Kennedy unleashed a shot that found the net.

Fourth point

The draw gives the Claggan Park outfit their fourth point on the road from their last two outings.

Calum Maclean’s men are now looking to go three games in a row unbeaten when they face a Turriff United side hunting for their second win in three games.

Fort can go up to 16th in the league if they beat the Aberdeenshire side on Saturday and if Clachnacuddin can beat Lossiemouth.
