Oban FM shout out for Rotary as donation moves station closer to buying trailer

-

Oban FM has received a generous donation that will bring it closer to buying its Big Day Out trailer, writes Harry Williamson.

The Rotary Club of Oban President Douglas Small presented a cheque for £780 to Oban FM’s chairman Campbell Cameron to assist with the fundraising.

The Big Day Out trailer will allow Oban FM to provide a PA system and MC services to events in Oban.

Thanking the rotary club, Campbell said: ‘The Rotary Club of Oban’s generous donation will help us to promote our town through the new trailer, our sincere thanks to President Douglas and the Rotary Club of Oban.

‘Our activities in the community include offering PA and MC services to many events in Oban area with our Oban FM BIG DAY OUT trailer.

‘We are working with the Business Improvement District, BID4Oban, The Rotary Club of Oban, The Oban Common Good Fund and The Oban and Lorn Lions, to make Oban the Big Day Out among many who avail themselves of our great wee town.’

Oban FM is planning its first big day to be St Patrick’s Day and will have a similar event for St Andrew’s Day later this year.

The news follows a period of growth for Oban FM, which has recently appointed Karen MacCorquodale as its new social media manager to build the radio’s online presence through digital access to radio via mobile, smart speaker, on demand and podcasting. Social media will be a big tool for Oban FM, helping it to raise capital and revenue investment through crowdfunding.

Debs Frary has joined as the organisation’s sales manager.

Oban FM has also been offered space in the new Rockfield Centre and the team is working alongside Oban Communities Trust to create a media centre in the heart of Oban.
