Pride supporters have film fun at fundraiser

-

Oban Pride teamed up with Oban Phoenix cinema and the Lorne Bar on Saturday night to hold an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza to get this year's fundraising efforts off to a lively start, writes Fiona Scott.

A special screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, hosted by the effervescent Crystal, kick-started an evening of fun during which the audience were encouraged to buy 'prop' bags and join in with the movie.

Organiser Phill Dexter said: 'The Oban Pride Committee was delighted with the turnout and loved the effort many people had gone to dress up. It was a fun experience for all.'

Afterwards the party continued at the Lorne Bar where Dragoake with Crystal and DJ George Noble kept everyone dancing the night away.

'The atmosphere in The

Lorne was fantastic and everyone had a brilliant night, celebrating and raising funds for Oban Pride,' added Phill.

'Again the numbers in attendance and the support the Oban Pride is receiving is fantastic and we can't thank everyone enough.'

The evening raised around £700 which will be added to the current funds.

Some grants have already been received, including a grant from The Big Lottery Fund and Bid4Oban to help cover the costs of this year's Pride event, which will take place on Saturday May 30 at the Corran Halls.

'The committee feels it is extremely important to keep Oban Pride a free family community event and this funding helps achieve our goal,' said Phill.

There are many ways to support Oban Pride, from donating funds, donating raffle prizes, decorating shop windows, to volunteering on the lead up to Pride or on Pride day itself.

A meeting for volunteers will be held on Thursday March 12 (7pm) in the hall of St John's Cathedral for anyone interested in helping out.

Businesses or organisations which would be interested in supporting Oban Pride should contact the committee at ObanPride@gmail.com and it can send out more information.

On Pride Day itself there will be a community area with stalls manned by organisations which support LGBTQ+ rights offering information and advice.
