In the spotlight this week is queen of country Christine MacDonald, who hosts Christine’s Collection from 7pm9pm on a Thursday. How long have you been at Oban FM?
Since 1996 - 24 years.
What is your ‘daytime’ job?
Retired now, worked as a wages clerk for Tesco for 23 years.
What is your earliest memory?
Although I was only two,
I can vaguely remember where I was standing with my mum when the Queen visited Harris.
What was the first record/ download you bought?
Sailor by Petula Clark.
What are your all-time top five tunes?
He Stopped Loving Her Today by George Jones; Bays of Harris by Eriskay Lilt; Borrowed Angel by Mo Pitney; Let’s Dance by Michael English; Chain of Love by Mike Denver.
What is your most treasured possession?
Pictures drawn for me by my granddaughter.
What did you want to be when growing up?
I wanted to work at an airport because I love watching planes and now love my plane watcher app.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
Sophia, Adam and Donald John. My three grandchildren.
Which words and phrases do you most overuse? ‘Exactly’, ‘darling’ and ‘what’s for you won’t go by you’.
What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
If I lost weight.
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
To Harris ... visiting both sets of grandparents’ homes was always a joy.
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Always be kind and nice and a smile costs nothing. Always sing (even if you can’t) and dance. If you can do all that, you can take whatever life throws at you.
