The Oban Times

Wonderful sense of community and togetherness has come to light...

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

What a strange three weeks this has been, some parts of it have been really hard, like not being able to visit family and friends, and shopping - I used to love shopping but now it’s something to be endured.

Not everything has been bleak though, a wonderful sense of community and togetherness has come to light and the true heroes of our society have shone through and it’s not anyone famous or rich, it’s the people who keep the lights on and the shops open and the ones who help out in a crisis.

I really hope when things start returning to normal everyone remembers what mattered during this time and how important our NHS proved to be, and all the people who kept us fed and safe and sane. The weather has been a saving grace lately, things would have been much worse if we’d have to endure wind and rain for the entire time, both for those stuck in lockdown and those still working and having to venture out every day.

The photographs of our beautiful bay that I’ve posted on Facebook have resulted in some lovely comments about how much people are missing being able to visit us and looking forward to coming here when they can. Those comments have reminded me that this isn’t going to last forever and one day, hopefully in the not too distant future, our town will be open for business again and we’ll all be pulling together to get up and running, providing the warm welcome that Oban is famous for.

Last week the photograph was of Fancy That at the top of George Street and this week’s involves a walk along the seafront.
